Silence is Not Golden

2018 October 10

I am very sad and sick to see all the internal conflict currently occurring in our country. For 22 years, I served in the Air Force to protect the USA from enemies foreign and domestic – never realizing domestic terror could happen – from our own people. I am very disappointed to see so many willing to tear down what I vowed to protect with my life.

One of the more repulsive trends is the Democrat support of Antifa and their black-masked terror tactics to suppress freedom of speech and assembly – our most precious freedom. The Democrats do nothing to condemn it, and they often encourage this type of violence. And worse yet, much of the main stream media foster this type of raw hatred. The hypocrisy of the left is blatant. It is scary. The most recent example is the Kavanaugh hearings where the Democrats conveniently ignored the rule of law to try to destroy anyone who gets in their way. Absolutely disgusting. I can’t believe so many people vote liberal even though they personally don’t condone such despicable behavior. Somehow, they throw common sense to the wind hoping things will be better – which of course rarely works – just like hoping to win the lottery.

The more I think about this situation, the I more I see certain historical parallels. One era in particular keeps coming to mind. This was WWII Germany. German leaders cleverly engineered political correctness, where no one was allowed to say or do anything good for Jews. The population was brain-washed into believing Jews represented evil in all forms. If you listen to CNN, NBC, etc., it’s not hard to see the good .vs. evil parallel in today’s political climate. With the German police state in full force, I could understand that any Jewish support could mean death.

But today, I can’t understand how so many can sit idly by, and not say or do something about atrocities here at home. I’m afraid today’s political correctness is suppressing free speech and free thought for so many. This is frightening. People openly talk about sports and weather, but when Antifa destroys public property to prevent conservatives from speaking, or Maxine Waters openly calls for physical harassment of Trump supporters, or liberal senators overtly engage in personal destruction at Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings – liberals remain mum. What are they afraid of? Unfortunately, many give up their freedom of speech just to get along. In this case, silence is not golden – it is capitulation. My favorite historical figure, Benjamin Franklin, once said: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”

Doing nothing… saying nothing… while knowing what is happening is wrong, is political correctness at its worst. Fortunately, Donald Trump is tearing down that PC curtain. He’s shining the light of truth on corruption, the deep state, and the hypocrisy of the left. But he’s just one man. Fortunately, Trump’s leadership by example style is infectious, as evidenced by the Republican rally during the recent Kavanaugh hearings. Trump is on a roll as the Republicans are now riding the conservative wave of optimism and the tide of public support keeps rising. But Trump also needs your help. Decide who you are, what you represent, and act accordingly. If you’ve made it this far in life, you definitely have the right to be yourself – and not who others want you to be.

  1. I personally know this gentleman and agree with everything he said. My brother was a 20 year Army veteran who fought for this country, our freedom, his beliefs and that the USA is the greatest country in the world. He would turn in his grave if he could see what is happening in our country right now. I know that all Democrats are not bad or evil but how some of them can condone what people like Maxine Waters, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, or Cory Booker to name a few, are doing is beyond the pale. We need civility returned to this country. Our freedom of speech gives us the right to speak our mind but not to encourage people to threaten those who don’t agree with them or encourage violence. Isn’t it amazing that you don’t see Republicans in similar political positions advocate for what the 4 Democrats mentioned above are advocating. Don’t you get it??? Threatening violence is not in the best interest of our country and its people.
