President Donald Trump’s legal team used video clips of Democratic lawmakers speaking during then-President Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial to make the case that removing Trump from office would “weaken forever all of our democratic institutions.” White House counsel Pat Cipollone showed video of House manager Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, among others, warning that if Clinton were impeached and removed from office, impeachment would become a political tool to remove president with whom the opposing party disagrees. “You were right,” Cipollone said at the end of the video montage. The House of Representatives impeached the president in December based on two articles — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The Senate must now decide whether to acquit Trump or convict and remove him from office.
